MCDC First Annual Pot Luck Social - 2007
Although our recent rainy weather was in full swing on Saturday, June 30th, 2007, it did not dampen the spirits of our dog club members, plus two of our canine friends, who attended a delicious pot luck social, hosted by club chair Richard Lowery and his wife, Alexandra. The two dogs in attendance were very well behaved and seemed to approve of the event, even when the humans seemed to go on talking, as they did at a short meeting held after everyone had eaten and had time for informal chats.
A recent questionnaire to the general membership showed that there is strong support for continuing the tradition of the last two years of holding a Doggie Dayze type event. Time was set fot the third weekend in September. Members stressed the importance of involving young people (new MCDC programs are planned for September, 2007, after students get settled in school).
The group also looked at the concept of clusters as an emerging direction for the club. In fact, a "club of clubs" was offered to describe this formation. It means that members will be able to be involved specifically in their areas of interest, rather than having to attend meetings that contain something of everything, but with only a limited appeal to many.
The club is also pleased with the proposal of a greatly altered and simplified constitution, which will more accurately reflect the nature of our particular club. A committee has been struck to put forth a draft for the members to review, debate, and ultimately, ratify. Emphasis was placed on ours being both a dog-related and a service club, including any and all breeds and mixtures thereof. Then too, we want to define our relationship with the Municipality, the Marmora Cub Sno-Fest association, the Canadian Kennel Club, as well as the officers of the club and their functions.
All in all, the members came away feeling that it had been a very pleasant and productive day.
